Radio silence and the School’s second free online course

First thing’s first, apologies for the silence since our last post in December! Given the titles of the last few posts it may be apparent that work on the School’s free online courses, or MOOCs, has been all-consuming. This leads me to:

The School’s second free online course

Our second FutureLearn course from the International Centre for Eye Health, titled Global Blindness: Planning and Managing Eye Care Services, begins 27th April for a duration of five weeks. The course, led by Dr Daksha Patel, aims to highlight the key facts and learning around avoidable blindness and the global initiatives that seek to address it. By completing the course, learners will be able to:

  • Examine the epidemiology of blindness and visual impairment globally and locally
  • Relate to global initiatives to tackle blindness, such as VISION 2020: The Right to Sight and the WHO Global Action Plan 2014 – 2019
  • Evaluate the key disease control strategies for effective cataract and refractive error service provision, applicable within local settings
  • Understand and apply the essentials of the planning process for strengthening eye care service
  • Apply the principles of monitoring and evaluation to a local programme.

To discover what to expect from the course, Daksha has produced a post for the FutureLearn blog: ‘How do we stop the poor and isolated going blind from cataract?’
